Day 1 - Done and Finally in Bed

Wow. No matter how often I do trips like this, I'm always surprised by the challenges of getting to your destination. We were delayed for 2 1/2 hours, got to Toronto where they led us through a closed down airport, rushed us on onto the plane, only to sit an hour on the tarmac. Overall it went well, with only one barf bag and one bloody nose over two flights, and we eneded up about 90 minutes behind schedule.

A quick sandwich at the airport after meeting our tour director, and then it was off to the hotel to dump luggage and catch the train into London. If you're following on a map, we're staying out by the airport and commuting into Waterloo station, about an hour trip. Then it was a quick walk past the London Eye, Parliment, and of course Big Ben. The classic fish and chips followed for supper, and then it was off to Trafalger Square and a quick run through the National Gallery.

Altona flowers, far from home.

By now it was 8 pm, people hadn't really slept in about 30 hours, and enthusiasm for art and architecture was starting to slip. We headed back to Waterloo and our train home, with everyone in rooms and shut down by 10:30. No question, people will sleep well tonight! Tomorrow it's a bus tour of the city, a stop at Westminster Abbey, and the afternoon at Windsor Castle.
They look interested, but all they can think about is bed.

Loving London at night!
